Leadsheets typically only contain the lyrics, chord symbols and melody line of a song and are rarely more than one page in length. Musicians will often use these skeletons to improvise their own arrangements. Leadsheets often do not contain complete lyrics to the song.

The songs often list Title and the artist (or one of them) who popularized a song. So we have generations of people who may tell their audience that they are singing "Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most" by Ella Fitzgerald, when in fact the song was composed by Tommy Wolf, lyrics by Fran Landesman. Its an important distinction. A great example is "Over the Rainbow". Its not by Eva Cassidy, but there certainly is an arrangement that captures her performance of the Arlen/Harburg song.
