The fist section is in A minor with plenty of chromaticism focusing on intervals of Diminihed 5th and Minor 2nd to achieve a lament-like atmosphere. This section is immediately followed by a Piu mosso section which drives the piece forward employing a sense of urgency. Then the opening returns.
