Bright, Toe-tapping and Marvellous
Peter Bence is undoubtedly a master pianist and his arrangement of Black or White shows it. The intros booming, ear-piercing chords and his ingenious way of incorporating the hitting of the fallboard immediately grabs the listeners attention. Peter succeeds in creating a bright piece of music that is bound to get your feet tapping along. His arrangement is fresh and extremely pleasing to the ears (as well as the eyes!). That being said, I do have a few gripes with this sheet music though. There are no fingering markings present throughout the entire score which I find puzzling, because there are some difficult passages (finger-wise) where it would have helped to have proposed fingers. Also there are no pedal markings present throughout as well. In a piece like this it is vital (to the correct articulation) to have something like pedal to be notated and not be left to the performer. Sheet music should look enticing to the learner and small details like that do make a difference when it comes to deciding what piece to add to your repertoire next. Not all arrangers necessarily make good editors and this is a prime example of that. All and all, I would say this is money well spent and I would recommend this piece to every pianist I know. Every ADVANCED pianist I know, that is. Also, do not attempt to learn this piece if you are not yet prepared to step out of your comfort zone. This is a no-holds-barred piece of music that is meant to be performed in every sense of the word.
