The First Noel

About this product

The origin of The First Nöel is unknown but is generally thought to be English dating back to the sixteenth century. There is a misconception that the song was French because of the French spelling of Noel (which means Christmas) as opposed to the old English Anglo-Saxon spelling of the word as Nowell. After England was captured by the Normans numerous words were adopted from the Norman French language and Noel was one of them. Early printed versions of this carol use the Nowell spelling. The song with lyrics was first published in 1833 when it appeared in "Christmas Carols Ancient and Modern," a collection of seasonal carols gathered by William B. Sandys. In this arrangement, after the establishment of the melody the rhythmic texture is designed in such a way as to evoke the listener with a sense of falling snow.

Nice challenge

I can really recommend this to anyone. I gave it a 3.5 for difficulty, because it is absolutely playable with a bit practice. Its only the tempo that makes it challenging, although it is just 50bpm, but therefore 16th notes all the time. Jarrod Radnich has the talent to make a simple melody sound interesting by using ornaments, modulations and his very own style to fill it without an overload. In my opinion, The First Noel is a good bridge for advanced piano players, who want to extend their skills and looking forward to the virtuosic pieces!!
