when i was a kid i used to listen to the oscar peterson trio on the bbc. my mother (who was a piano teacher ) used to say to me,"well hes a great technician, but its not that musical.oscar is/was the modern day virtusuo of the instrument, second to art tatum, sometimes just a little too complicated, but for the rest of us,i would have preferred to print off a bill evans arrangement,it would have been more straight forward, nicer harmonies. but its good. im no expert, these guys just asked my opinion.but thanks oscar r.i.p

Round Midnight, Oscar Peterson
This is Oscar Petersons version of Thelonius Monks most familiar masterpiece. Very few pianists could play this comfortably --- I cant. Overall however, it is a master-class in piano texture and technique. Oscar Peterson is for Jazz what Franz Liszt is for classical pianism --- both are summits to be approached and learned from. I would strongly recommend returning to Monks original while listening to Petersons version. One would learn the most that way. Just listening to Oscar is like contemplating Mt Everest without actually going there.
