As he later explained to Max Wilk, "Jimmy and I sat for hours trying to figure out how to write a song that would denote the walk of a fellow who's just ever so slightly drunk. We finally came up with the exact phrase. What do you say when a drunk is walking like this? That's walking happy, right?" "Walking Happy" became the title of a 1966 Cahn/Van Heusen musical version of HOBSON'S CHOICE that ran for 161 performances on Broadway. Singers ranging from Shirley Bassey to Rosemary Clooney to Ray Charles have recorded this tune since.
