Guitar Arrangment of Steely Dans Josie
6/24/2015 5:14:01 PMThis arrangement is for guitarists who read guitar notation as well as guitar tab. The arrangement also includes complete lyrics. As a keyboardist in a cover band, I was asked to cover the first guitar solo on key tar so the lead guitarist could play the outro. Thats why I purchased this arrangement from musicnotes.com. That being said, the arrangement itself is sufficiently accurate. The intro is true to the original recording. The chord names are descriptive enough in the intro. and allow other musicians to add voicings that one guitar player may not be able to include. For example the C/F chord in the guitar notation does not include a G note. However most keyboardists, including Donald Fagen, would more than likely include that note as well as an A note in the voicing. For better or worse, this situation is repeated throughout the arrangement. In the bridge, only the guitar lead is notated, so a guitar 2 or keyboardist would need to learn the bass line from the record or video. The guitar solo itself after the bridge is magnificently transcribed. The guitar solo on the outro is also scored very well. This arrangement combined with a video clip of Donald Fagen and Warren Bernhardt (Homespun Video) would give any musician sufficient harmonic knowledge to learn and perform this dynamic Steely Dan song.
